This story was submitted to me this morning. i am so happy for this couple!!
I am very proud to say, he is a 100%, all natural, hypno baby with no augmentation of drugs during labor or delivery! A couple of the nurses were shocked!!!
How it went down:
I started having surges around noon on Monday, and by 11:30 p.m. they were close enough and strong enough to call and come to the hospital. At around midnight when I was checked, I was 5 centimeters and 90% effaced. Surges were quite strong then, and I had really painful back labor. All of the relaxation and breathing techniques, as well as Bill's light touch massage, were a HUGE help in getting me through it though. Fortunatly I had Megz, which was who I was hoping for, and she was WONDERFUL! I did some walking, time on the birthing ball, time in the tub, time on all fours, squatting, crouching, you name it! She was very supportive and encouraging! All I'd hoped for.
Around 3:15ish I had the first signs of NER, and my water broke when my body started pushing. I continued to try to focus on my birth breathing and breathing the baby down, but I often found my body just taking over. Considering he wasn't officially born until 7:10 a.m., that was almost 4 hrs. of NER contractions! Towards the end, (meaning the last hour and a half) it was so strong that I found myself uncontrollably reverting a lot of times to the "purple pushing" versus being able to make any progress with the birth breathing. In the end, I also ended up having a pretty significant tear (on a scale from 1-4, it was a 3) so I have quite a bit of stitches and discomfort.
However, despite all of that, Megz pointed out to me that not once did I say "I can't do this" or "I've changed my mind" and I realized that those thoughts never crossed my mind. I KNEW that I could handle whatever path my birthing took, and I owe that to Hypnobirthing!
Overall, I feel very empowered by my birth experience, and wish that everyone had the opportunity to be given the tools to call upon a strength and power greater than they ever thought possible. I truly am in awe by the power of the laboring woman's body and am so grateful and thankful to you for sharing your knowledge about this.
